{my goals for 2010}

I've made all these lists in my head of the things I'd like to acheive but to make it more concrete (and to have accountability!) I've decided to write them down. This will also give you some insight into the things that are important to me. I certainly have high long term goals but that may be another post for another day. As I go through and achieve these goals (& hopefully I will!), I'll let you know about it and link back to this list to check it off! I'll also continue to add more to the list as they come to mind. So in NO uncertain order:

I want to....

1. Read my Bible more

2. Spend more time in prayer

3. Spend more quality time with my husband

4. Have all successful weddings and happy brides this year :)

5. Shoot an out-of-state wedding

6. Be on time with my blog posts (ha!)

7. Eat healthier

8. Cook more meals and eat more as a family

9. Acquire some lenses I've been eyeing ;)

10. Attend the Love Affair Workshop

11. Go back to Haiti or help in some way

12. Have all my Hope for Kidz children sponsored plus more!

13. Shoot a trash the dress session

14. Book double the amount of weddings for next year (so 10)

15. Take a trip with my husband

16. Use our kayaks more than once

17. Have golden retriever puppies (looks like this will be happening soon!)

18. Buy a Mac Book

19. Get my newsletters out on time! (this may be my downfall)

{wedding giveaway!}

Congratulations to Katrina who won last week's giveaway!
Winner chosen by Random.org

I am very excited by this next giveaway. This store is absolutely beautiful! The jewelry is so unique and elegant. Galit is the creator of this exquisite line of jewelry and is such a delight! Our giveaway this week is a $30 gift certificate to Galit's store. So you get to choose anything you want out of this awesome store- rings, earrings, necklace, anything! Enjoy reading a little bit about this artist and then be sure to enter at the bottom.

A little bit about Galit.
I'm 23 years old and I've been making things ever since I was young. I love to draw, paint, knit and make all kinds of crafts. I major in fine art in high school and began my jewelry business 2 years ago, along with opening my shop on Etsy.

Last October I started Jewelry design studies in Shenkar Collage for engineering and design in Tel Aviv. I learn the basics of design and metalsmith, it's hard work, but I enjoy it much!
I love reading, hiking, watch movies and listen to old progressive rock. Unfortunately I haven't got any time for almost any of these as I'm so busy with school and my shop.

What do you like about where you live?
I currently live in a town close to Tel Aviv, in a small apartment with lots of windows facing a public garden. I'm getting used to to living in the city. The thing I love most about my little place is that it is all mine, and that I share it with my boyfriend. As I'm unable to have a garden, I have a few spices and plants on my porch, I wish I had more!

Describe your style.
I create unique jewelry, most made using a crochet technique, using gold filled and sterling silver wires combined with semi precious stones and pearls. My jewelry is lightweight and delicate, classic and modern at the same time, but the most important thing is that it will make you feel special.

Where do you find inspiration?
I like organic shapes, and I usually take my inspiration from the material I use, its texture and colors. I find semi precious stones a great way to express my designs.

Where can we find you?
The best place to find me is on Etsy and you can contact me trough Etsy or by email at galitbarak87@gmail.com. I have a blog which I try keep updated between homework, dinner and bed time at http://www.galitbarak.blogspot.com/.

Last Friday's Giveaway Winner: Leela! Congratualations!
winner chosen by Random.org

It's jewelry giveaway day on the blog! I'm very excited for this giveaway- it's fantastic and I wish I could enter. This collection of jewelry speaks to the style of Wilmington.

Janet from Janet Mazorie Jewely Design is offering this beautiful pair of sterling silver star earrings. Perfect for a beach wedding. And the funny thing is she used to live in Wilmington!

A little about Janet
Currently I am living in New York City working as a jewelry designer both for my own collection and for a handful of well known designers. I came to Manhattan 3 years ago to attend the Fashion Institute after graduating from business school in Wilmington, North Carolina. Credit goes to my mother, a tremendously talented woman, for exposing me to designing and working with my hands at a very early age and continuously fostering my passion for all things creative. My love for jewelry is actually a byproduct of my love for shoes, as I first began designing and selling jewelry to fund my obsessive shoe buying habit. Now that I have a handle on that habit, I spend most of my time and energy hunting for new materials and inspiration to work with. I currently design and make all of my pieces in my rather small apartment.

What is the wedding industry like where you live?
The industry here is so large that it would be impossible to generalize, but I work with several people who specialize in custom wedding rings who stay very busy. This time of year specifically, they are receiving orders and producing for not only the summer, but for next fall and winter. I think NYC is a great destination for people who are in the planning process. We have Kleinfeld’s Bridal which houses thousands of dresses and then there is Tiffany’s for jewelry and I think there are a few big Bridal Shows/Expos a few times a year.

What gives you inspiration?
I go to museums a lot for inspiration. Some of my favorites include the MET, Cooper Hewitt Museum, and the American Folk Art Museum. I also think of all design ideas right before falling asleep and I keep a notepad and pencil on my bedside table. This probably drives my boyfriend crazy because I turn the light back on at least 3 times every night to sketch out my thoughts. The materials I find are also great sources of inspiration. I lay them all out on my work bench and play with them until I know exactly what I want to do.

Where can we find you?
My website, www.janetmazorie.com, is currently under construction. You can see my jewelry at my Etsy shop, www.jmcrowther.etsy.com. Also check out my blog, www.janetmazorie.blogspot.com, and twitter feed at www.twitter.com/jmcrowther.

Our next giveaway item comes from Cory at Falling Star Lane. Me, being a beach girl, I love her shop! The jewelry is so feminine but casual and elegant at the same time. I can see this fresh water pearl necklace on a bride's neck for a beach wedding. Stunning! I may have to get one for myself.

A little about Cory
I have been married almost 23 years, and have 5 children. I have 2 weddings coming up, my daughter this August, and my son the following summer, so i have been around wedding stuff quite a bit lately! I have an amazing grandson, the light of my life. He's 2 1/2 & he's wonderful.
I have been making jewelry for many years - 15 or so, and crafting pretty much all my life. I have to be making something, it keeps me somewhat sane :) I love to make delicate, intricate jewelry and sun-chimes and suncatchers - and I have a confirmed addiction to paper - so I make cards in order to justify my purchases! I sew, and invented my jewelry wraps, which have been selling really well. One customer was a bride who bought 10 for her wedding party, mom, and mother-in-law.

What inspires you?
I am inspired by other people, nature, the beauty around me, and God. I love collaborating with people, making just what they want.

Any advice for Brides?
For brides, I would say, be flexible, nothing is set in stone. You will be so much happier if you allow for changes, and focus on the marriage and relationships, and not stress about the details. It will be a perfect day, and you will be so happy if you allow for the natural changes that can happen. Trust those around you to know what they are doing, and let them do it.

Where can we find you?
My site is www.fallingstarlane.etsy.com and i am on facebook at www.facebook.com/fallingstarlane.

Our third wonderful item comes from Dabanga at Dabanga Handcrafted Jewelry. Dabanga has been so cool to get to know. This bracelet is stunning and could be worn many times after the wedding is over. She has offered to make it with white pearls as well if the winner requests! Her store is so unique and has a wonderful African feel but with modern design.

A little big about Dabanga
I'm a self taught jewelry designer formerly a microbiologist from Mozambique. I make jewelry for people who have a distinctive taste and aren't afraid to show it through their choice of clothing & accessories. I live in New Rochelle, NY on the Long Island sound and I can enjoy the ocean view and marine activities which are in walking and driving distance.

What is the wedding industry like where you live?
There are many weddings and receptions are held at the country clubs on the sound and bridal parties are photographed in the Grassland park overlooking the sound.

Where do you find inspiration?
My inspiration for jewelry designs come from ancient cultures. I sell on Etsy so that I can connect with a broader audience of people who have a taste for my distinctive style.

Where can we find you?
I can be found I can be found at www.Dabanga.Etsy.com, www.Dabanga.com and
